A Sit Down With Satellite Stories

A few days ago I asked Satellite Stories if they would shine a little light on some things I was curious about and this is what they had to say.

So the first obvious question I would like to throw at you is what exactly spurred Satellite Stories into motion?

It was simply four guys wanting to play some positive and danceable indie. Our singer Esa and drummer OP first met during a lecture at the University. They started to talk about music and stuff. Next Esa asked me to join for bass and then I asked our former guitarist Taneli to join. Taneli went into the army and then to study some rocket science so Marko joined our band about two years ago.

Rocket science!? :D

And did any of you have previous bands/projects that you were working on at the time?

OP and Marko had had some band many years ago, I think the name was Byegone. Me and Esa had played in the background of some rap groups.

I read from your myspace page that you guys were the most blogged Finnish band of 2010, How has the response to your music been over there?

I'm not sure. There's really not much of this kind of music in Finland, people are not used to our sound so they need some convincing. In the foreign countries people are more used to indie so they seem to accept our music alot easier.

Yeah, I heard that Finland's metal scene is much more prosperous than any other genre.

Have you ever toured in the U.S.

Nope. Not even close. Maybe someday if you bloggers write hard enough about us!

Well we're going to keep crossing our fingers.

Ever shared the stage with one of your favourite bands?

No, but man that would be cool to play with Vampire Weekend or Phoenix!

When Playing shows in Finland do you use English in all of your songs? Or do you also play songs in Finnish?

The songs are all English, even on the gigs in Finland. Of course all the other talking between songs is in Finnish.

What’s your favourite song to play live?

We always end our show by playing Kids Aren't Safe In The Metro, so maybe that.

Good choice.

Have you ever played any big music festivals in the past?

Not in the past 'cause we're quite a young band, but this summer we will be touring three of the four biggest summer festivals in Finland!

You guys released your first ep in November of last year so I guess the next big question is when will we be hearing more from you guys?

I can't reveal the exact date yet, but let's say you don't have to wait for long!

YES!

Are you guys contemplating any changes in your sound for the next release?

The sound is going to be more professional and danceable, but not any big changes.

Well we're all looking forward to that.

Are there any future music videos for your first three songs in the works?

Actually there is, but we're not sure are we going to release it or not.

Helsinki Art Scene

I would like to thank Satellite Stories again for giving telephant its very first interview, and for answering all of my questions. We're still gunning for an American tour, you guys have serious fans in the states.
